More than seventy years ago, five Nazi scientists embarked upon an expedition into the frozen Himalayas in search of the origins of the Aryan race. What they found instead was something beyond their wildest imaginations, a secret they would sooner take to their graves than risk releasing upon an unsuspecting world.
Now nearly a hundred years old, Johann Brandt, the lone surviving member of the original party, shares his discovery with Jordan Brooks, an evolutionary anthropologist, who launches his own expedition into one of the most dangerous environments on the face of the planet in search of the evidence Brandt claims to have left behind.
If Brooks and his team hope to find the proof, they’ll have to follow the historical footsteps of the Germans into the hunting grounds of a species that evolved in utter geographical isolation, and their only hope for survival lies in uncovering the truth about the ill-fated Nazi expedition…for those who don’t learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

Fearful Symmetry is a taut, horror thriller set in Tibet. An ailing, aging professor sent one of his students, who is a junior professor, to find a virus in Tibet, which he believes is a key to human evolutionary biology. The team finds a lot more than they bargained for in Tibet, while the junior professor unwinds a seventy year long deception by his world famous anthropology mentor. The story line takes a long time to ratchet up the tension, but then it is a roller coaster until the finish. The scene I liked best in the story was when Brook, the younger professor, was trapped on a swinging rope bridge over a 300 foot deep ravine while the killer, mutated ape man-like hominoids approached him from both sides. I also liked that the "monster," the intelligent, ape-like hominids in this story is not the dull, animal-like rogue yeti or sasquatch, but an evolutionary next step humanoid killing machine caused by the viris Brook and his team were sent to find. However good the monsters are at killing, love conquered all in the end. You'll have to read if for yourself to find out more. Fearful Symmetry is a thinking persons horror thriller. I recommend it.Product details

Fearful Symmetry A Thriller edition by Michael McBride Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I was really captivated by this book ! It kept me reading well into the night! There were very few dull moments which I skipped thru ! The last half of the story was fantastic a must read for any one that loves a real thriller! By the way a great ending!
This is my fourth Michael McBride book and he never fails to deliver. This one is a very unique retelling of the Hairy Himalayan legend that artfully blends real science and its fictional flip side. Admittedly, it starts a little slowly and takes some patience alternating between the origin of this story (70 years ago) and present day activities. But once I became accustomed to that presentation style, I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. It has many twists and turns and just when you think you’ve figured it out, you’re thrown another curve. The end result is a very enjoyable and thrilling journey.
I enjoyed this book most for the writing. I enjoyed this author's style. Having said that, I gave the book four stars because I found myself a little confused toward the end of the story. But don't let that stop you from picking up this book! The story is suspensful, unique in its perspective, and a very enjoyable read! The characters are interesting, and the description of their travails in the Himalayan mountains draws you into the story. I like the way the author uses flashbacks to the 1930s Nazi expedition to develop the plot, and there are some very interesting twists!
4.5 stars.
Fearful Symmetry is actually one that I bought the signed limited Thunderstorm edition of the book before I read it. Michael McBride is one of the few authors whose books I buy before I read them because I already know they will be good and with Fearful Symmetry I was not disappointed. Plus, the s/l is freaking amazing.
An expedition into the Himalayas, Nazi's, and Yeh-Teh. How much more can you ask for in a book? I won't give you a plot summary because there are enough of them floating around already. Like I have come to expect from Michael McBride, the characters are solid. He doesn't go into lengthy detail about every single character because you don't need it. Although it starts out with somewhat of a good versus evil and blurred lines aspect, the ending will have you re-thinking everything you thought you knew. The story isn't cookie cutter. I loved the switching back and forth between the journal entries and present day. I found the then/now perspectives to be very well done.
Overall it was an enjoyable and fast paced read that I think read more like a true story than horror fiction. The amount of science and research in this book gives it a definite edge over a lot of the hard-to-believe plot lines I have become accustomed to in this genre, but once again, this is not a surprise from Michael McBride who excels at this.
You wanted to know what I think and that is that you should read this book and decide for yourself. And while you're at it, feel free to pick up Condemned (my favorite McBride to date), Sunblind and F9, which are my other favorites.
This book is brilliant! It truly has everything one could want action, horror, suspense, elaborate character development. The level of detail shows the amount of research that McBride put in to this novel.
The twists and turn create a maze of wondering where the book was leading the reader. The ending sealed up the questions I had along the way and it's one of those books that you will be thinking about long after you complete it.
McBride truly impresses me. I have yet to read anything that I haven't loved.
It would be a mistake to pass this one by. Buy it. It's money well spent.
This is the first book I've read by the author and it won't be the last. The characters were amazing and I quickly found myself hooked with the happenings of their adventure. Plenty of surprises that I didn't see coming. Loved the ending. The only thing for me that prevented this story from getting the full five stars is the technical/medical explanations going on with DNA and evolution. It slowed the pace of the action down in a couple spots and I skipped over it. It reminded me of sitting in a class room listening to a lecture. Yet it wasn't enough to take away from a well written plot and overall great story. I look forward to reading another novel by the author.
This guy is INCREDIBLE!!! My absolute favorite author!! You can't LOSE reading his books!!! I have read quite a few of them lately (it has become a bit of an addiction, truth be told) and I kid you not, every single one of them have been beyond incredible!! I LOVE this guy!!! He never misses!! He hits a home run every single time!!!
I am SO very glad I discovered him, and even happier that he is such a prolific author.
Other people will tell you the plot line, all I want to do is convey how it made me feel, reading all of his books..
Here is how I do it...
I plan on being alone.
I keep the lights on,
I strap myself in,
Then I hang on for the RIDE!!!
Woooooo HOOOOO!!!!
